The President’s Cancer Panel — part of the NIH’s National Cancer Institute — has identified three priority areas “vital for building and maintaining a robust cancer workforce,” according to a report published Jan. 21.

The “Ensuring a Strong Future for America’s Cancer Workforce” report was developed by panel members Mitchel Berger, MD, director of the Brain Tumor Center at University of California San Francisco; and Carol Brown, MD, senior vice president and chief health equity officer at New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The three priority areas identified in the report are:

  1. Creating supportive partnerships across healthcare and research organizations, government agencies and the private sector.

  2. Expanding education and training pathways to strengthen key roles in the cancer care workforce.

  3. Supporting cancer care team productivity by improving EHR systems and prior authorization processes.
