The President’s Cancer Panel — part of the NIH’s National Cancer Institute — has identified three priority areas “vital for building and maintaining a robust cancer workforce,” according to a report published Jan. 21.
The “Ensuring a Strong Future for America’s Cancer Workforce” report was developed by panel members Mitchel Berger, MD, director of the Brain Tumor Center at University of California San Francisco; and Carol Brown, MD, senior vice president and chief health equity officer at New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
The three priority areas identified in the report are:
- Creating supportive partnerships across healthcare and research organizations, government agencies and the private sector.
- Expanding education and training pathways to strengthen key roles in the cancer care workforce.
- Supporting cancer care team productivity by improving EHR systems and prior authorization processes.
