Chicago-based Rush University System for Health will use a “major” philanthropic gift to expand cancer clinical trial capabilities and establish the Harold B. Smith Family Cancer Research Center.
The gift will enable Rush to triple clinical trial capacity within the next five years, according to a Dec. 4 news release from the health system.
Rush did not disclose the size of the gift, but said it is the “largest ever” cancer center donation, with the previous largest gift being $25 million, the Chicago Tribune reported Dec. 4.
Rush will hire additional translational research staff and build the necessary infrastructure to accelerate cancer research, the health system news release said.
