UPMC taps cancer center leader

Pittsburgh-based UPMC has appointed John Byrd, MD, as director of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

Dr. Byrd will step into the role in November and also serve as associate vice chancellor for cancer affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, according to an Aug. 11 news release from UPMC. 

He previously served as professor and chair of the department of internal medicine at the University of Cincinnati and chief of internal medicine at UC Health. He was also the founding director of the division of hematology at Columbus-based Ohio State University.
