Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center has secured a five-year, $10 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to study why breast cancer returns after treatment.
The research, led by Julio Aguirre-Ghiso, PhD, director of the cancer center’s Cancer Dormancy Institute, aims to identify which patients are most likely to relapse and develop ways to prevent recurrence, according to a Nov. 3 news release from Montefiore Einstein.
Researchers from Stanford (Calif.) University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University at Albany (N.Y.) and Columbia University and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, both based in New York City, are also contributing to the project, the release said.
