Cancer cases certified through New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health’s World Trade Center Health Program increased from 177 to 235 between 2023 and 2025.
The program logged another 132 new cases in the first half of 2026, bringing the total to 811 new cases over the past 42 months, according to a Sept. 8 news release.
Prostate and skin cancers were the most common, followed by breast and urinary tract cancers.
More than 57,000 of the program’s roughly 145,000 enrollees have been diagnosed with cancer, and lung cancer cases have doubled over the last five years, the release said.
“While we initially saw respiratory disease, we now are faced with increasing numbers of our patients developing cancer,” Jacqueline Moline, MD, director of Northwell’s WTC Health Program, said in the release. Dr. Moline expects cancer diagnoses to continue to climb over the next 25 years.
