Houston-based Kinder Children’s Cancer Center has received a $10 million commitment from the Robert R. and Kay M. Onstead Foundation.
The gift will support capital projects for the cancer center, which is a joint venture between the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s, both based in Houston, according to a Sept. 9 news release from Kinder Children’s Cancer Center.
Texas Children’s and MD Anderson established the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center through a $150 million gift from the Kinder Foundation.
Upon the joint venture’s launch, pediatric oncology care will be housed at Texas Children’s while radiation oncology will remain at MD Anderson. Both organizations will continue to provide adolescent and young adult care.
The yet-to-be-built Kinder Children’s Cancer Center facility, poised to become the nation’s largest pediatric cancer center, will offer inpatient and ambulatory care alongside research labs dedicated to drug discovery and clinical trials. The new center will be connected via sky bridge to Texas Children’s Hospital.
A designated space within the new Kinder Children’s Cancer Center facility will be named in honor of the Robert R. and Kay M. Onstead Foundation in recognition of the gift.
