Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has established a department of colorectal medical oncology and named Scott Kopetz, MD, PhD, its inaugural chair.
The department was created in response to rising colorectal cancer diagnoses among adults under 50, according to Dr. Kopetz, who shared news of his appointment in an Oct. 16 LinkedIn post.
In his new role, Dr. Kopetz said he will work closely with Arvind Dasari, MD, the new chair of gastrointestinal medical oncology, and Christopher Flowers, MD, division head for cancer medicine.
Early priorities include developing a colorectal cancer strategy across research and clinical care, recruiting colorectal cancer clinicians and investigators and expanding multidisciplinary care through MD Anderson’s newly opened Colorectal Center.
At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
