UTMB cancer center taps MD Anderson leader

Galveston-based University of Texas Medical Branch has tapped Raghu Kalluri, MD, PhD, as chief scientific officer and senior vice president.

Dr. Kalluri will also serve as executive director of the UTMB Cancer Center, according to an Aug. 31 news release from the health system.

He joins UTMB from Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he served as director of the Metastasis Research Center and chair of cancer biology, the release said. 

“I am tremendously excited by the opportunity to build this new cancer center and contribute to the bold investments in science, innovation and the implementation of AI,” Dr. Kalluri said in a Sept. 1 LinkedIn post. “Big things are happening under Dr. Reiser [Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD, CEO and president of UTMB] and his exceptional leadership team.”
