Washington, D.C.-based GW Cancer Center has named Alison Hall, PhD, interim director, succeeding Julie Bauman, MD.
Dr. Hall will continue serving as senior associate dean for research at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, according to an Oct. 14 news release from the university. She previously served as the cancer center’s associate center director for cancer research training and education.
The center also appointed Kate Chiappinelli, PhD, to the newly created deputy director for basic sciences role. She will serve alongside Ed Seto, PhD, the release said.
The leadership changes follow the transition of GW Cancer Center’s medical faculty practice to Maryland Oncology Hematology and Capital Medical Group. The cancer center, which is pursuing National Cancer Institute designation, already exceeds the institute’s $10 million threshold for annual cancer research funding and will work toward additional benchmarks this year, according to Dr. Hall.
At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
